Better batteries could boost renewables

A new kind of battery could prove cheaper and more effective for utility-scale energy storage than conventional technologies, allowing renewable power plants to store wind and solar energy until it's needed. The battery technology, which relies on an organic compound called quinone, could also be used by companies to buy and store cheap energy during off-peak hours.
