Wash. SR 520 project hopes to up budget from $2.72B to $2.89B

The $250 million contingency fund set aside for Washington's State Route 520 project, including the floating bridge, has been depleted. Issues with concrete, cracks, redesigns and delays ate up the reserve. Transportation Secretary Lynn Peterson has asked for an additional $170 million to boost the project's budget, bringing the total cost from $2.72 billion to $2.89 billion. "The good news is, we can pay for these costs with existing funding sources and without looking for new revenue," Peterson said.
