Florida unveils tougher program for middle schools

Yesterday, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush announced plans to bring more academic rigor to middle schools, including new graduation requirements, remedial reading classes and a standardized grading scale. State Education Commissioner and former middle school teacher John Winn said too much attention has been paid to the adolescent development of middle school students and not enough given to their academic achievement.
