Georgia governor calls for teacher raises

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue said Tuesday he'll ask Georgia lawmakers to give teachers a 4% pay raise in the upcoming fiscal year and freeze their state health insurance premiums. His budget also supports hiring extra teachers to reduce class sizes, expanding school construction and providing each high school with a "completion counselor" for at-risk students.
