Calif. hospitals push to comply with RN ratio requirements

Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, Calif., is among the hospitals that are trying to quickly hire new nurses as they work to achieve the nurse-to-patient ratios now mandated by state law. Memorial has recruited 114 new nurses since March, while nearby Doctors Medical Center has brought on 33 new RNs, which could cost more than $3 million per year.
