AFT: Student test scores should factor into teacher evaluations

American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten is proposing an overhaul of teacher evaluations that includes assessing teachers based in part on student test scores. In a speech given today, Weingarten said the AFT supports "a fair, transparent and expedient process to identify and deal with ineffective teachers. But [we] know we won't have that if we don't have an evaluation system that is comprehensive and robust and really tells us who is or is not an effective teacher." She also proposed a plan to quickly resolve disciplinary cases against teachers.
