Cable networks head into difficult retransmission season

High-profile, high-stakes retransmission-consent disputes -- such as the recent standoff between Time Warner Cable and News Corp. -- are expected to have an effect on future discussions between multichannel providers and cable networks. "The world we are coming into is going to be much more difficult," a senior cable network affiliate executive said. "Broadcasters and sports providers have put pressure on the system lately. They've made it so much more contentious."
