Institutions turn to timberland as an inflation hedge

Faced with the certainty of higher prices and interest rates, institutional investors are increasing their allocations to timberland investments, including timber REITs, to hedge against inflation. Dick Molpus, president of Molpus Woodlands Group, said investors also are interested in moving into timber investments because prices are coming down. The timberland sector became fairly expensive from 2007 to 2009, he said.
