Food makers are gradually reducing sodium levels on some of their most popular items but are not labeling the revamped products as low-sodium. Over the course of five years, ConAgra Foods, for example, is cutting sodium by about 35% on its Chef Boyardee canned pasta. ConAgra is one of many companies hoping consumers won't notice the slow change. New York City officials today planned to announce an initiative to help food makers and restaurants cut the amount of salt they use.
