Native grasses to make a comeback in California community

Volunteers in Vallejo, Calif., will strip out weeds clogging a meadow in a local park and replace them with 11,000 native grass plugs. "Native grasslands are basic building blocks for a variety of plant and animal communities," explains one volunteer, who added that the deep roots of native plants help conserve water and make them drought-resistant.
