Study: 18F-FDG PET helps identify Parkinsonian disorders

Researchers have found that 18F-FDG PET imaging has a high specificity and positive predictive value in differentiating between Parkinsonian disorders, such as idiopathic Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy and progressive supranuclear palsy. The finding could help doctors identify patients with the early stages of the disorder and plan appropriate treatments, as well as pinpoint suitable candidates for drug trials and complex procedures, an expert said.
