West Virginia lawmaker to introduce cockfighting legislation

The Humane Society of the United States in West Virginia is pressing to make cockfighting a felony offense under new legislation, in an attempt to put a stop to the "animal cruelty, illegal gambling, distribution of illegal drugs and violence," that often accompany the activity, the group's state director said. The state's Senate Judiciary chairman intends to introduce the legislation.
