Apple dampens prospects of less costly iPhone

Apple sought to put to rest reports that the company would market a cheaper iPhone. Senior Vice President Phil Schiller vowed to a Chinese newspaper that "cheap smartphones ... will never be the future of Apple’s products." Apple CEO Tim Cook was meeting with China Mobile executives to discuss a closer working relationship although they declined to mention any specifics. Reports of the talks led to speculation China Mobile might soon sell the iPhone.
