Big Blue continues to dominate patent landscape in 2012

IBM marked its 20th year as the world leader in patents in 2012, tallying 6,478 completed applications -- thousands more than rivals Google and Apple -- including one for the question-answering technology used by the company's Watson supercomputer. Big Blue was ranked by Boston Consulting Group as one of the most innovative companies in 2012 and reportedly generates $1 billion a year from licensing its intellectual property.
