Some economists argue that the colossal gains of the past two centuries were driven by a single burst of technological advances -- and that the momentum of that surge is now fading, leaving the planet in the grips of a "great stagnation." That's probably too pessimistic, argues The Economist, although it's true that many advanced economies are too set in their ways to adapt to truly revolutionary innovations.
