ZTE: U.S. carriers want to partner on new, higher-end phones

U.S. carriers proved more receptive this week to ZTE's pitches for its smartphones, said Lixin Cheng, the head of the Chinese vendor's North American business and who was pitching the ZTE Grand S, a high-end phone that will ship later this year. "There was a wow factor when they saw them," Cheng said of the 2014 models he showed to carriers, although he declined to specify which telecoms were interested in partnering. ZTE has been known for making low-end and mass-market devices.
