Biotech deals increased last year, more takeovers expected

Last year there were 232 biotech deals, including acquisitions and product alliances, a 32% increase over the previous year, as the firms increasingly become acquisition and alliance targets for drug companies. One investor who concentrates on biotechs that might be takeover targets called the situation "an escalating arms race" and said Pfizer and Merck are leading candidates for buying biotechs.
