Atheros mobile-phone chip creates Wi-Fi access point

Chip maker Atheros said it hoped that new technology that converts mobile phones into Wi-Fi access points would be ready this year, one of a number of new developments to expand router capabilities. Atheros said its chip would enable handset use to go online using such mobile broadband connections as the HSPA 3G technology.
