Economy hitting private schools hard, too

As some parents fall behind on private-school tuition payments, others transfer their children to public schools mid-year to save money and still others seek more financial aid from endowments hit hard by the falling stock market, U.S. private schools are hurting, private-school experts say. "It's harder to collect tuition now than ever," said Andrew Goldberger, chief executive of a company that bills for about 2,000 private and religious schools.
