Minnesota officials put weight restrictions on bridges

New truck-weight restrictions on six steel-beam span bridges put in place by state regulators in the southeast part of Minnesota will affect about 30 bridges. Engineers note that new truck-axle configurations allow trucks to carry more weight. And the increased weight of the trucks may negatively affect a bridge, depending on its design.
