Report: Improving patient care should be focus of health IT

The National Research Council reported that several major health care providers have adopted health IT mainly to comply with regulations, not to improve patient care, and fall short of meeting the care delivery goals set by the Institute of Medicine. The council also reported that doctors tend to focus too much on analyzing raw data instead of using decision-support applications to help them in diagnosing and treating patients.
