EU aid chief won't take recession for an answer

Incoming European Union Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs said he would not tolerate the global financial crisis as an excuse for cuts in aid pledged by developed nations to the developing world. Noting that food and energy prices have threatened progress toward the UN Millennium Development Goals, Piebalgs said he will advise developing nations to look at extracting natural resources from a long-term perspective.
