Pushback is loud over AP's stimulus report

A new AP report claims a $20 billion surge in stimulus spending has had little impact on unemployment and that highway construction projects have little impact on local joblessness rates. Some officials swiftly pushed back, saying the report missed the point. "DOT-administered stimulus spending is the only thing propping up the transportation construction industry," wrote Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. AGC's Ken Simonson noted that a "$4 billion net increase in highway construction activity last year can't be expected to lift the overall construction industry."
