U.K. to give broadband-enabled laptops to low-income households

The British government said Monday that it would spend nearly $500 million to give away about 250,000 laptop computers and free broadband service to low-income families as a way of helping children improve in school and parents find jobs. The scheme is also part of a government effort to provide parents with access to their children's progress reports.
