REITs closed an impressive variety of deals in 2011, law firm says

REITs closed $70 billion in transactions in 2011, according to partners in the REIT mergers and acquisitions department at the law firm of Watchtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz -- an impressive number even though REIT deal activity slowed at the end of the year. Robin Panovka says he expects deal activity to continue this year but notes that it's difficult to predict the volume. Adam Emmerich adds, "Our sense is that things are warming up and that the conditions that generated impressive deal volume in the first half of 2011 will again drive a healthy volume of deals in 2012."
