Biotech companies seek new drought-tolerant crops

Monsanto Co. and Pioneer Hi-Bred International are leading other biotech companies in a global competition to develop new crops that can withstand drought and other natural phenomena that adversely affect agricultural production. "Equipping plants to be able to maintain productivity in the driest years is of critical importance. Drought is a global problem and we recognize the threat that comes with climate change," said the global vice president for research and development at Pioneer, Bill Niebur.
