Central bankers expect rough year, then recovery in 2010

Officials of the world's major central banks, meeting at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, said they expect the global economy to experience a sharp slowdown this year and recover in 2010. European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet, who presided over the meeting, said the big job remaining is to rebuild the confidence of markets in the financial system.
