Commercial insurance prices slumped in fourth quarter, survey finds

The commercial insurance market will continue to remain soft this year as most prices declined in the fourth quarter in 2009, according to Risk & Insurance Management Society's benchmark survey. "The combination of a weak economy, which has suppressed demand for insurance capacity, combined with a very mild year for natural catastrophes, has kept downward pressure on rate levels," said an expert with Advisen, which administered the poll.
