Companies have high hopes for stevia sweeteners

Cargill, which developed the Truvia zero-calorie sweetener with Coca-Cola, is taking it to packaged foods, with a Truvia-sweetened Breyers Yogurt one of the first foods to contain the stevia-derived sweetener. Meanwhile, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola are adding stevia sweeteners to products, and McNeil Nutritionals, a unit of Johnson & Johnson, has begun selling a tabletop sweetener made with stevia and sugar cane, called Sun Crystals.
