Leave dead leaves where they are, say experts

Gardeners should resist the temptation to trim away dead leaves from their trees and bushes, experts say, since dried-out foliage can help protect plants from sudden cold snaps. "No matter how ugly it is, you have to get through these two months," says Patricia Porchey, an urban agriculture agent in Florida. "If you prune right now, all those exposed areas ... become more vulnerable to cold damage."
