Move by China's central bank pushes down Asian markets

Asian-Pacific share markets declined Wednesday after the People's Bank of China moved to rein in lending. China's Shanghai Composite plunged 3.1%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 2.6% and Japan's Nikkei 225 gave up 1.3%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 slid 0.6%, South Korea's Kospi Composite lost 1.6% and Taiwan's Taiex shed 1.4%. New Zealand's NZX 50 slipped 0.4%, Singapore's Straits Times Index declined 1% and India's Sensex dropped 0.6% in late trading.
