Obama picks former USDA official to strengthen food safety

President Barack Obama has chosen Michael Taylor, adviser to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg and former head of the Department of Agriculture's food safety program, to serve as the agency's deputy commissioner for foods. As Congress works on new laws aimed at giving the FDA more authority to bolster food safety, Taylor is expected to enforce new regulations that would prevent outbreaks of food poisoning.
