Survey: Sterilization not a priority for many new pet owners

A nationwide survey that included 1,000 adults who have acquired a dog or cat in the past year found that 48% of the pets still have not been sterilized. The survey also found that 17% of new pet owners were unaware of the proper age to spay and neuter their pets. The findings could help the animal welfare sector be more effective in addressing pet overpopulation, according to the executive director of PetSmart Charities, which commissioned the survey.
