U.S. unemployment claims rose last week

First-time claims for unemployment benefits in the U.S. rose 24,000, to 399,000, last week, the Labor Department said. The four-week rolling average of initial applications, viewed by many economists as a more reliable indicator than the weekly figures, increased 7,750, to 381,750.
