Exec: ESPN projects "significant" ratings increase for World Cup

ESPN expects "significant" ratings growth for this year's FIFA World Cup in Brazil, compared with the 2010 edition in South Africa, said Jed Drake, senior vice president of event production. The event will be helped by Rio de Janeiro being just one hour ahead of the Eastern time zone, a more competitive U.S. squad and more visibility for the sport among American sports fans. "There's no question that this event has the stature of the Super Bowl and then some, if I may," Drake said.
