Study: Psychiatric drug use continues to rise among children

In 1996, more than 6% of American children took Prozac, Ritalin and Risperdal, according to a major study published in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. The study also shows psychiatric drug use among children has tripled from 1987 to 1996. Some experts attribute the rise to cost-saving initiatives by insurance companies, marketing by drug companies and increased pressure on parents and doctors.
