Commentary: Ephedra justifies giving FDA more power to speed removal of harmful supplements

Without a change in the law, it will take many years for the FDA to amass the evidence it needs to take herbal supplements off the market if a problem arises with them, as it did with ephedra. The man behind the ephedra ban said it is likely other dietary supplements taken as substitutes for ephedra are going to prove just as toxic, but it will take years for the FDA to gather enough evidence to get each of them off the market.
