Wal-Mart takes its case to consumers

Yesterday Wal-Mart CEO H. Lee Scott Jr. went on a rare public relations blitz, placing full-page ads in 100 newspapers defending the retailer's hiring and labor practices and sitting for interviews on CNN, ABC, Fox and CNBC. Scott issued a statement through a new Wal-Mart Web site claiming that "our associates are tired of" seeing their employer misrepresented in the press and in the popular culture, and "we've decided it's time to draw our own line in the sand."
