How NBC bosses dropped the ball

Conan O'Brien has been lashing out at the NBC leadership this week, and he's got a point, write Marc Effron and Miriam Ort. The problem was less NBC's broken promises -- hey, it's business -- and more the company's defensive, reactive approach to managing its stars, Effron and Ort write. It's better for everyone, they add, when leaders are more assertive and avoid letting themselves be browbeaten or cajoled into making vague promises about their employees' future prospects.
