Lack of building standards worsens Haiti quake devastation

Devastation caused from the recent earthquake in Haiti was worsened by shoddy building standards in the impoverished nation, according to the Organization of American States. Buildings, including homes, government offices and schools were reduced to rubble as a result of sub par materials and building methods, including homemade concrete block, unreinforced poured concrete and low-quality concrete.
