Hologic's device shows promise in improving breast cancer diagnosis

Hologic's 3D mammography device, which earned FDA approval in 2011, has been shown in a study to have substantially better outcomes than standard 2D mammography alone. The study, which appeared in the journal Radiology, noted that combining 3D and 2D mammograms improved the detection of all breast cancers and invasive breast cancer by 27% and 40%, respectively, while reducing false positive test results by 15%.
