Researchers use 3D photonic crystals to improve thin films in solar cells

Researchers at Purdue University report being able to improve the energy efficiency of thin-film solar cells, employing 3D photonic crystals to trap light in crystalline silicon-based solar cells. The inverse opals involved were fabricated with a meniscus-driven self-assembly process, according to the researchers.
