Deadline speeds contract settlements in many Minnesota districts

A state-imposed deadline for Minnesota districts to hammer out contracts with their teachers seems to have helped avoid strikes in most instances, with the majority of districts having come to terms as of the Jan. 15 deadline. "Without a deadline, hundreds of contracts would be unsettled by mid-January," Education Minnesota President Tom Dooher said.
