Merrill to issue $6.6 billion in preferred stock

Merrill Lynch is expected to sell $6.6 billion in stock to overseas investors including the governments of South Korea and Kuwait. The sale, which includes the acquisition of preferred shares, is the latest foreign injection into U.S. banks that were hit hard by the subprime-mortgage meltdown.
