German economy contracts 1.5% to 2% in Q4

The economy of Germany, the world's biggest exporter, shrank by 1.5% to 2% in the fourth quarter, hurt by the financial meltdown and surging value of the euro on currency markets. Provisional figures released by statistics agency Destatis show that during 2008, Europe's largest economy grew by 1.3% but contracted in the second, third and fourth quarters.
