NBCTs among 2009 Teacher of the Year finalists

National Board Certified Teachers Cindi Rigsbee, a North Carolina middle-school reading teacher, and Susan Elliot, a Colorado high school English and social studies teacher, are among the four finalists for the 2009 National Teacher of the Year. The others still in the running for the country's best educator include Anthony Mullen, a Connecticut special-education teacher and former New York City police detective, and Alex Kajitani, a California eighth-grade math teacher who raps original songs for his students. The finalists will be interviewed again in early March and a winner will be recognized in April by President Barack Obama.
