Canadian teachers connect classrooms for online book discussions, project

Two Canadian teachers -- in St. Thomas and London -- connected their seventh-grade students for a long-distance discussion about a book being read in class. Using Google Hangouts and Docs, students worked on their research and analytical skills while preparing to discuss the book for each session. "It's just really breaking down the walls in the class and reaching out into other communities," said teacher David Carruthers, whose students recently met their counterparts in teacher Ryan Matthews' class to create a movie-style trailer for the book.
