Stem cell procedure helps to mend bones

Scientists in Belgium are developing a method to help mend broken bones using stem cells extracted from adipose tissue. The researchers used cells from patients' own fat -- about the volume of a sugar cube -- to grow bone that is then applied at fractures and defects to aid regeneration. Eleven patients, including eight children, were treated using the procedure.
