Google and Facebook want you -- and your friends

The near-simultaneous launch of Facebook Connect and Google's Friend Connect was a declaration of virtual war for control of the online social world, according to Slate's Michael Agger. Both tools create a standard that allows you to push all the information flowing through all the sites and online services you belong to into one central location. The winner, Agger says, will create a network of social networks with the requisite user habits that "make great marketing and advertising platforms."
