Nominee for SEC chief vows to "reinvigorate" enforcement

Mary Schapiro, U.S. President-elect Barack Obama's nominee for chairwoman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, told the Senate Banking Committee that one of her first jobs would be to "take the handcuffs off the enforcement division." Current procedures make it difficult to issue subpoenas and launch formal investigations into suspected violations of securities laws, she said.
